The Savior has Arrived!!!

Post by Mar » Sun Mar 22, 2009 5:29 pm

This is the program that is a must have for ANYONE who has addons. It's called WowMatrix. It's a program outside of WoW that catalogs and monitors your addons. If any are out of date, it will recognize it. It has an 'Update All' button that allows you to update all out of date addons at one time. It maintains a database of the most recent updates on a wide range of websites. All you do is hit the button and the program goes out and gets the files and updates your files automatically. I did have a couple that it didn't catch automatically (Talented and XPerl), but you can right click on the addon and select "Visit Official Website" and it takes you straight to the website for a manual download. I just updated 35 addons in about 1 minute. Doing that manually through Curse.com would take me about an hour. So before you log in, run WowMatrix to update all addons and then launch the game. No more fatal crashes due to old addons!

It also has a pretty extensive list of available addons that you can peruse and install without having to surf the web.

Enjoy!

p.s. for you Loremaster chasers, Cartographer_QuestInfo is also a must have.

I've been running Curse Client, which does the same thing, for months now and don't know how I got along without it. I used to dread patch days, cause that meant the inevitable days of fighting with add-on errors afterwards, but I haven't had any addon problems since going this route. Now I download something once and forget about it.

I really hesitated in downloading the Curse Client since it sounded like a -beautiful- gateway for malware for me. But Nems tried it, and when his lappy showed no signs of having picked up electro-gonnorhea I went ahead and tried. Now, you couldn't pry it away from me.

I had Curse Client for about 4 months and hated it. It only had the database for mods on its website and I constantly had problems with the automatic downloads. For me, WowMatrix is a massive upgrade.

Yep. But it still works at telling you when your addons are out of date.

BTW, they recently completely re-did the Curse client and it works perfectly now. I run it just before each time I launch WoW and it's seamless.

Ya, the original Curse client was nice, but buggy as hell. Felt like a new Microsoft release. The updated version is NICE.

Well, I'm running on my new compy, and a couple of hours into installing and updating WoW..... I gotta tell you, the most painless part of "moving in" to my new computer has -got- to be using the Curse Client to download and install my addons in a snap.

It sure ain't the patching process... >.<

I'm still pouting over Curse's turf war, but it looks like I will have to suck it up and download the new Curse Client. I hated it a year ago, but I'll give it a shot if it has been greatly improved.

It was pretty good until yesterday when it patched... they are now offering a "premium service" what this means is unless you pay you'll have throttled downloads and you have to manually update each add-on instead of an update all button being available.

Seriously, the "throttled" downloads were still super-fast, and while I miss the lack of automatic updates I still find it to be no deal-breaker.
